His history in the US Navy includes involvement in NATO training missions and mediation between the Afghan government and multinational forces. Lieutenant Commander Christopher B. Pickford also received recognition as a finalist for the Junior Naval Officer (JOY) of the Year Award in 2006.
Presented by the Association of the United States Navy (AUSN) in partnership with the Navy Reserve Forces Command, the JOY Award celebrates the Navy’s finest young reserve officers. In addition, award recipients boast the highest qualities of professionalism and leadership, traits essential to the Navy Reserve’s success.
Young reserves that qualify for the award include those who achieve the position of lieutenant commander or below and receive a nomination by their commands for exceptional service. The Navy Reserves Forces Command reviews all candidates nominated for the award and selects several winners for each award period. ASUN’s board of directors presents awards to the winners during its annual business meeting.
